Windows Emulator Mac

Windows emulator Mac software is excellent for running Windows applications on your Macintosh. Emulators are virtual machines that mimic the OS they are emulating, and has several advantages over creating a separate partition, and installing a different OS.

Consider an instance where you have booted your computer in Mac OS, and need to run a Windows application. Without an emulator, you will need to reboot, to access the Windows OS to run the application, and then again restart to get back to the Mac OS.

Virtual Machines

Virtual machine on the other hand gives you a seamless option of running Windows application from the resident OS itself. If you constantly need to switch between Windows and Mac applications, then it makes more sense to have an emulator, instead of a dual booting system.

The virtual machine enables you to switch between Mac programs and Windows applications without rebooting. It is a seamless switch, and the user will be running applications of two different operating systems simultaneously.

Windows OS and PC

Due to the popularity of Windows OS and PC around the world, there are many games and free applications available for Windows that are not available for Mac. There is also certain legacy software, which is used in companies that is not upgraded, and many people would like to keep working with the older versions for various reasons.

Apart from that, Windows emulator Mac is also very useful for developers who need to test their applications on both the operating systems quickly. Windows emulator Mac is available free, and in sophisticated paid versions.

Emulators

VirtualBox by Oracle, and Q by Mike Kronenbert are free virtualization software, where you can run Windows applications in Mac OS. These emulators are basic, and will not have the advanced features of paid software.

However, to use an emulator, one needs an Intel-based Mac machine. Some of the sophisticated emulators in the paid category include Parallels Desktop 7 from Parallels, VMware Fusion 4 from VMware, and CrossOver 10 from CodeWeavers.

Parallels Desktop will run Windows in the background, without displaying Windows desktop. The Windows applications can be seen in Dock, and switching is possible amongst them without the use of Windows interface.

VMware Fusion offers a tightly integrated environment, supporting Aero features of Vista and Windows 7. This virtual machine also enables restoration of previous saved states of Windows, and many other useful features like drag and drop between the two OS.

It also offers a migration utility for packaging PC's contents and creating a virtual machine. CrossOver 10 from CodeWeavers, on the other hand is much more cost effective as you do not need to own a Windows OS for running Windows applications on your Mac.

Users can also install Windows application directly in the OS X. It also provides a box for running command lines of Windows without switching OS.

CodeWeavers also has a Windows emulator Mac, specifically designed for running PC games in Mac OS without the use of Windows. This version supports game titles like World of Warcraft, Guild Wars, Portal, Peggle and many more.
